How to Stop Comments From Scrolling on Fb Live Feeds
16 ways to stop the scroll — Facebook video tips
According to TechCrunch, 8 billion videos are watched on Facebook every single day. That staggering number was reported in 2015, so you can only imagine the exponential growth that occurred in the last 2 years. Some brands do find this number a bit misleading, though, as Facebook counts a video view after only 3 seconds.
So how do you get your audience to watch more of your video? First, you need to know what is considered average, good and excellent watch time. One of Facebook's ex-engineers, Logan Young (now running his own company, Blitz Metrics), shared these benchmarks:
And when looking at Video Views in relation to organic Reach, you can expect your views to be 50% of the post reach.
Now that you have a benchmark, you still need to find ways to "stop the scroll" i.e. grab your audience's attention long enough for them to watch more than 6 seconds of your video in their News Feed before scrolling on to the next piece of content.
1. First 3 seconds
These first 3 seconds can make or break your content. Don't slowly build-up to a climax, you don't have time for that. Get to the point immediately. Your video will likely auto-play in the News Feed without sound, so try a big attention-grabbing on-screen title/caption.
2. Focus on 1 key point
Don't give the viewer too much. The harder your content is to understand and the more points you're trying to communicate, the less likely your viewer will stick around. If you have a lot of content, split the video into a series of shorter videos.
3. Video length
To find your Page's sweet-spot, you have to experiment. But, to get you started, Buzzsumo analyzed 100 million videos and found the optimal length for a Facebook video is 60 to 90 seconds. The second best length is 90 to 120 seconds, and the third best is 30 to 90 seconds. Shorter videos work well on Facebook. The longer and more detailed ones are best for YouTube.
4. Vertical videos
More than 92% of Facebook users access the social network on a mobile device. Take advantage of this with vertical videos. Vertical videos grab more attention because they use more screen real-estate, and you're less likely to have to compete with posts above and below yours in the News Feed. If you don't like the vertical bars along the sides of the video, then create square videos or videos with a 4:5 screen ratio.

5. Upload natively
Upload your video files directly to Facebook. DO NOT share them from YouTube. Videos uploaded natively to Facebook receive 109% more interaction and are shared 477% more times than YouTube links in Facebook.
6. Engaging post copy
Write post copy that gets the viewer to engage. Use emojis, questions, even quotes from the video itself. And don't forget, lists still work well.
7. Tell, and show
Don't be afraid to provide a preview of the video in your post copy. Tell the viewer what the video is about if you can't show it in the first 3 seconds. It'll give them a chance to decide if they want to continue watching or not.
8. Descriptive titles
By writing a descriptive title, you not only grab attention, you also make the video searchable. But stick to something short and catchy, possibly a tease (see above tip).
9. Limit your characters
While the character limit on post copy is only 2,000, in the News Feed, your copy will be truncated after 400 characters. If you're going to be using all 2,000 characters, make sure you get the most important and valuable information into the first 400 characters.
10. Custom thumbnails
If you don't want to design a custom thumbnail in Photoshop, then use the most enticing frame from the video. For the few who have not set videos to auto-play, your thumbnail could mean the difference between a click-to-watch or a scroll.
11. CTAs
Facebook may have removed the call-to-action button from organic videos, but you can still add a URL to the post copy. Whether you're using a link or not, make sure you give the viewer a strong and compelling call to action. You can place the CTA in the video itself as well, and not only have to rely on the post copy.

12. Captions
Because Facebook auto-plays videos with the sound off, adding captions is a good idea. But don't settle for the standard SRT files. Be inventive.

13. 'Tap for sound'
Even though 88% of Facebook videos are viewed with the sound off, that doesn't mean you can't ask the viewer to turn it on. If your video simply won't be the same without sound, add a 'tap for sound' CTA upfront.

14. Go LIVE
It's no secret that Live videos are prioritized in the News Feed — especially with the new algorithm update. As a bonus, Facebook automatically records your live video and then posts it to your page when the recording stops. You can always go back and optimize the post copy afterwards.
15. Website embeds
Depending on your social media strategy, you might find it more useful to embed Facebook videos on your website than those loaded onto YouTube.
16. Learn from previous videos
Always, always, always optimize and then analyze. Keep going back into your analytics and Facebook Insights to see what worked and what didn't. Pay close attention to the watch time and where viewers dropped off.
